Babbling 'Bout Books

Hello, I'm a Booktuber/Book Blogger and love to read mainly historical fiction, dystopian, fantasy, paranormal, books. You can find me on Youtube at http://youtube.com/kielianne or through my About Me page at http://about.me/kielianne

Wondrous Strange

Wondrous Strange - Lesley Livingston I really enjoyed this book. It featured a young actress, Kelley Winslow, who finally gets her big break landing the lead role of "Titania" in Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream (one of my favourite of Shakespeare's works), and Sonny Flannery, a member of an elite group of guards working for King Auberon the king of one of four faerie courts in the Otherworld. The story continues on through their meeting one another, the winning of Kelley's trust by Sonny, and the realization that they have far more in common than they originally thought.

The Last Heiress (Friarsgate Inheritance, Book 4)

The Last Heiress - Bertrice Small Read this book prior to any other in the series. For my full review see my blog:http://babblingboutbooks.blogspot.ca/2012/05/review-last-heiress.html

Paper Towns

Paper Towns - John Green Fuller review to come, but I liked this one. It was a nice lighter read/listen and there were several times I laughed out loud while driving along listening to it. I was a bit disappointed by the ending though so that is probably why it didn't receive any more stars in my book...

Divergent

Divergent - Veronica Roth Oh my gosh, fuller review to come. Such a good book. Can't wait to start the next in the series (it is in the mail as I write this). Definitely some sad parts but over all I enjoyed reading about the world Veronica Roth created, reading about the five factions that society are divided into, and reading about the colourful and/or dark characters that live there.

GARDEN OF EVIL-DR.WHO3 (Find Your Fate/Dr. Who, No 3)

Garden of Evil - Dave Martin Review to come, so glad to be finally finished reading this book though!!!

Linger - Maggie Stiefvater, Dan Bittner, Pierce Cravens, Emma Galvin Review coming soon...

A Ring of Endless Light (Austin Family)

A Ring of Endless Light (Austin Family, Book 4) - Madeleine L'Engle I came across this book some time ago on Audible.com where I believe it was free so I figured I'd give it a try. It also fit in nicely with the fact that I am doing a "Reading the Alphabet" challenge and was in search for an "H".I am very glad I stuck with this one. At the beginning I almost gave up on it just due to the narrator's voice. The thick British accent was hard to understand at first and so I found it difficult to get into the book. Once I did however I found I learned to understand the narrator much more easily and quite enjoyed the story as it progressed. I do however wish things at the end had been explained more, e.g. the culprit explaining how they pulled everything off and their personal account for why they did it. Also there were several clues that seemed to be fairly important at one time or another and then they were never spoken of again. There were also a few times I wanted to throttle one character or another, but otherwise it was a pretty decent read/listen that also made me laugh out loud along side the characters.I must however commend the narrator for being able to put on so many different styles and accents of speech, and for keeping them all straight and fairly consistent. My favourite was Tristrum with his particular speech impediment as well as Darcy's irish lilt.

Demon King, The (A Seven Realms Novel)

The Demon King - Cinda Williams Chima review to follow

Once a Witch

Once a Witch - Carolyn MacCullough Absolutely loved this book. I couldn't put it down.Full review to come...

The Tuesday Club Murders: A Miss Marple Mystery (Miss Marple Mysteries)

The Tuesday Club Murders: A Miss Marple Mystery (Miss Marple Mysteries) - Agatha Christie Review to come...

The Scorpio Races - Audio Library Edition

The Scorpio Races - Maggie Stiefvater, Steve West, Fiona Hardingham I really enjoyed this book. Sad to come to the end. Even more so because it isn't part of a series. I've been trying to get into a lot more series lately just in case I like the first book and want to read more. I found it a relief that the romance in this book was quite toned down. Unlike Shiver (the only other Maggie Stiefvater book I have read and thus can compare it to) the kisses were few and far between which gave a lot more space for character and relationship development as well as to incorporate much more of a story, imo.I would however liked to have a bit more at the end, showing the beginnings of what lies ahead for everyone instead of merely hinting at it for some, and seemingly forgetting all about others.

The Virgin Cure

The Virgin Cure - Ami McKay I recently joined a book club with some people at work. This was the first book the majority voted for so I figured I'd give it a go. Especially since I wanted to test drive my new e-reader.This book definitely didn't disappoint. It was the first I had read by this author but since beginning this book I have already picked up The Birth House so I can read more from Ami McKay.The way this book is written the more innocent/nice a character seemed, the more I wanted everything to work out for them and really felt for them when things didn't go so well, e.g. the young Moth, Alice, Cadet, Dr. Sadie, etc.I also enjoyed the bits and pieces of "articles" from newspapers, poems, bits about fashion magazines from the time period and the journal pages from Dr. Sadie that were all included in this book. They added to the atmosphere of the time period and gave a different perspective on the events aside from how Moth saw them.SPOILERS: I liked how in the end we find out what happens a few years later for some of the characters but there are still a few I would have liked to have heard more about. Like if Nestor ever earned enough money to be with his girl, if Carolyn ever became Mrs. Wentworth's lady's maid or if she hired another girl to beat, if Mrs. Wentworth ever found out about her husband being with Moth or if her husband ever found out Moth had worked for this wife, if Mrs. Wentworth ever noticed her things were missing, what happened to Moth's neighbour/friend from her old neighbourhood after she came to Mrs. Everett's, if Moth ever got the tear catcher back, what happened to Mae, etc.

Doctor Who: I Am A Dalek (Doctor Who (BBC Paperback))

Doctor Who: I Am A Dalek (Doctor Who (BBC Paperback)) - Gareth Roberts I liked this book a lot more than the last DW Quick Reads I read; The Sontaran Games. Possibly because it mentioned a lot more backstory of The Doctor and Rose. Would have liked a bit more explanation of how Kate changed, etc. but I guess some things have to be sacrificed to have it fit into little more than 100 pages... Otherwise a good quick read.

Doctor Who (Quick Reads)

The Sontaran Games - Jacqueline Rayner Simple yet interesting story for such a short book.
